Description: Rachmoninoff's music remains in every pianist's repertoire. Although he also comosed choral music, orchestral works, chamber music, and operas, he will perhaps be best remembered for his four piano concertos, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, and his solo piano works. Even in his earliest piano pieces dating from the 1880's, Rachmaninoff's instinctive feeling for richly colorful harmony, long melodic lines, and an effective pianistic layout are evident throughout his music. The works selected for the present anthology contain pieces from all periods of Rachmaninoff's career, including an early composition writen in the late 1890's and a late revision done in 1940 of an earlier peice. Also included is his famous transcription of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumble Bee.
