Written in memory of the composer’s young neighbor, this expressive solo is sure to appeal to teenage and adult students. The lyrical melody is an excellent study in broken octaves, a pattern that is found slightly altered in the left hand accompaniment. The key of C major and 3/4 meter make this piece easily accessible, allowing students to concentrate on creating the tender mood invoked by the romantic-style elements found throughout the piece.
